GOLF

GREETING FROM THE GOLF CHAIR

Well, it’s summertime in Florida and mother nature keeps interrupting our game plan. The June 22 outing at Plantation Palms was a rain out and more recently the third day of our Heatwave at Skyview C.C. was also a partial rainout. For the most part our July 4th holiday/weekend “Heatwave” was a very successful event. Several of us enjoyed the El Diablo course in Citrus Springs on Friday the 4th followed by dinner and fireworks over in Crystal River. Saturday July 5  forty golfers enjoyed the Twisted Oaks G. C. in Beverly Hills. For most of us it was a first and the reviews were unanimously good. Saturday golf was followed by dinner and dancing at Citrus Hills Country Club thanks to our member there, Ray Marcos.

We were able to complete our scramble event at Twisted Oaks with prize money going to the 1st place team of Ray Marcos, Anne Phillips, Richard Higginbotham, and Merrilee Tooker: 2nd place honors went to team of Paul Trotta, Pat Stead, Al Richards, and Beth McGucken and cleaning up was team of Dick Patton(moi), Edie Senensky, Ron Hazellief, and Darlene Sonneveldt. Closet-to-pin winners were Beth McGucken and Dick Howard.

Sunday’s event at the Skyview C.C. was a bit of a disaster with very heavy rains early in the round sending most players home. Thirty Five golfers began the event and after hour rain delay fourteen of us were able to complete our round. However, the 3-best ball contest had to be aborted so there are no prize winners to report.

Join me in a big “thank-you” to Edie Senensky for her effort in putting this year’s “Heatwave” together. I picked the courses and she did the rest. It’s easy to pick a course, get tee times, and send out an e-mail. It’s quite something else to put together a 3-day event at 3 different courses with group dinner, entertainment, lodging, pre-event sign-ups, $$$collection, maps &directions, pairings and e-mail reminders. THANK YOU EDIE!!! She’ll be in the middle of things at the “fall fling” at Mission Inn also, so be nice to Edie.

By the time you get this newsletter we will have played our regular monthly event July 20 at the Fox Hollow golf club in Trinity.

For August, we have “penciled in” the River Club in Bradenton on Sat. August 30 followed by cookout at home of ASGA member, Germaine Burgett. This will be tee times and pay-at-the-door event so stay tuned for e-mail updates.

SOCIAL COMMITTE

We are in the hazy, lazy days of summer so haven’t scheduled a lot of social events.

Our August social event is the First  Annual Bowling Battle of the Sexes (FABBOTS).  There is more about this event in another part of the newsletter.  It should be a fun time so we urge everyone to attend.  We will pick a place to get together for happy hour and dancing on August 22 so mark your calendar.  We will let you know at the meeting and via email the time and location.

BOMBASTIC BOWLERS!

On July 19 there were 11 brave if not somewhat trepidacious ASGA members who showed up at the Pin Chasers bowling alley on Hillsborough Avenue to fine tune their bowling forms in anticipation of the First Annual Bowling Battle of the Sexes (FABBOTS) to be held August 2 at the same place.  Some of them had not bowled in decades but they were fearless.  The high rollers of the evening were Manus (169) and Sandy and Vince, both of whom rolled a 166 in the same game and were on the same team.  (Guess which team won?)  Others who gave it their best included Francis, Dick H, Midge, Anne, Edie, Deb, Pat and Carole.  Cynthia and her guest Michael were on the injured reserve, sidelined with a bad knee and bad hip, respectively.  Rumor has it that the following morning a couple more people may have had similar aches and pains.  You would have been proud of your 11 fellow ASGAers.  They were troupers!
